Dr. Uma Prabhakar is an independent consultant supporting all aspects of early drug development up to proof of concept. She has over 35 years’ experience in pharmaceutical research & development (R&D) for both small molecule drugs and biologics and has held leadership positions across pharmaceutics, start-up biotechs and academia. At Centocor, Uma served as Senior Director of Oncology Biomarkers and Translational Medicine, and was associated with a number of approved drugs in the field.  As Senior Consultant at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, she established a public private partnership between industry and academia (TONIC) to promote advancements in nanotechnology translation. She also served as CSO of a startup company, BRIM Biotechnology Inc based in Taipei, TW, and was responsible for all scientific oversight on all projects within the company including producing two IND’s in the oncology and ophthalmology therapeutic areas. Uma has published widely in reputed scientific journals and book chapters. She also published a book ‘Cell-based assays in the GLP Setting’ in 2008 which is widely used as a reference for the development of cell based assays.

Dr. Prabhakar holds a Ph.D. in Human Genetics from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India.
